For our 160th anniversary, we pay a special birthday tribute to our founder John B. Stetson (born May 5th, 1830), with this ultra-premium straw hat that features three rows of intricate mountain-shaped venting.
Available in a limited quantity of 400, the JBS Edition is handmade in Texas from 50X quality shantung straw, which is prized for its lightweight feel and unbeatable resilience. It features our new Wear Ready profile, which requires little to no shaping and translates to a 4 ¼” shovel front brim and a 4 ⅛” low cattleman crown. Fitted with a custom saddle leather hatband and matching leather sweatband, it’s complemented by a gold-tone JBS branding iron hat pin with inset stones—a symbol of the trailblazing spirit that started it all.
The JBS Edition’s signature mountain-shaped venting around its crown celebrates a momentous chapter in Stetson’s life. In 1862, while out west searching for gold, John B. Stetson and his party were trapped in a storm at the base of Pikes Peak, on the southern front range of the Colorado Rockies. It was there he crafted his first western hat, which a passing stranger offered a $5 gold piece for. It was the first hat Stetson ever sold. Three years later, in 1865, the John B. Stetson Company was born.
